The Sign Of The Wolf

Pentagram is performing this Friday and in honor of such a momentous occasion i will give unto you 'Relentless' their first full length album, and probably their best aside from their demos from the 70's. So ya, this is a gift that keeps on giving, Sabbath laden Doom from American contemporaries.
Ps i am totally gonna throw my panties into Bobby's toothless old mouth...and the panties will be laced with speed.

Enjoy

Huge

Sprawling soundscapes, desperation, and heavy amounts of dope-smoke trailing away from my point of view drifting farther and farther into the atmosphere til it dissipates over a rising metropolis of noise and confusion.
This is Boris and their 2nd album entitled "AmplifierWorship" from 1998
Enjoy

Migration

This is BuriedAtSea, and their only full length entitled 'Migration'. BurriedAtSea hail from Chicago and features a member of Minsk and Nachthmystium. The music is very drony and epically long. At points the music can be atmospheric, crushing and painful. The first track reminds me of Thor'sHammer at least around 10 minute point.

Mourning Of A New Day

You remember Cathedral right? Before Lee Dorian started singing all over the top and acting really obnoxious. You know before they were super cheesy. Well despite the fact i was only 4 when this album came out i still remember. Although i do like the cheesy Cathedral i must say that this era is much better. Its Doom at its finest, just straight foreword, no songs about 70's movies, just songs about sadness accompanied with really slow heavy music. so if you like your Doom in a perpetual state of mourning this one is for you.
Enjoy

Come To Grief

This is Grief's 1st Full length record entitled 'Come To Grief '. This is good old fashioned sludge, its brutally slow, narcotic induced and heavy. This is the paranoia one feels after mass consumption of Marijuana, and the feeling one gets after years of drug use has isolate them from their friends, family, and all the people that once cared for them.

Blah

Jhva Elohim Meth... The Revival

This is the 1992 mini LP entitled 'Jhva Elohim Meth... The Revival' form Stockholm's very own Katatonia. I really like this album, its pretty, mournful, and heavy. The sound reminds me a lot of a doomy Axegrinder or the slow parts of DeviatedInstincts 'Guttural Breath'... so like crusty doom metal which doesn't sound like that bad of an idea to me. I guess Katatonia went on to become a much shittier band in much like contemporaries MydyingBride and ParadiseLost. So enjoy the despair.

Space, The Final Frontier

Space, the final frontier. We exist on a on a giant marble hurdling through the cosmos with an unimaginable amount of power slowly pushing us around and around the Sun in a constant groove. This is sort of the way i would describe NegativeReaction with their deep appreciation for all things spacey, and their infectious spacey sludge. This is there 1998 effort entitled 'TheOrbitEp'. It is what anyone would come to expect in a Sludge/StonerMetal band slow down-tuned grooves, and crushing Drums. But i must say i love the vocals they are exquisite, punishing anguished shrill strained vocals. Well that's all i got so enjoy some good old fashioned Sludge from NewYorkCity. For fans of Grief, Bongzilla, GravesAtSea, NoothGrush...and various others.

Never Again!

This is Buzzov*en, for those in the know this was Dixie Collins band prior to the awesome Weedeater. This 7" came out in 1997 and contains two awesome tracks 'NeverAgain' and 'Useless', both of which are great. So as expected this is good old down-tuned stoner doom for the downtrodden and terminally self medicated. So enjoy.

Re-Up

This is a re-posting because i was un aware that i had a few incomplete tracks, so here you go and enjoy.

This is Weakling, they hailed from SanFrancisco, and play Epic BlackMetal. This release has been commented as being a "Masterpiece" and i would have to agree. This album was entitled 'DeadAsDreams' and came out in 2000, just after they had called it quits. 'DeadAsDreams' is both fast and slow with lots of atmospheric cavernous sound. The songs are long and drawn out, in a good way. Weakling project feelings of emptiness, anger, and deep seeded desperate depression(hooray for alliteration). Five tracks in all this release comes in at a whopping seventy-six minutes. In addition weakling also has members of Asunder, TheFuckingChamps, Saros, and TheHusbands. This is for fans of Bethlehem, Asunder, and depression. For some reason i see this band more with DoomMetal then i do with BlackMetal, i'm not sure why, its not like its that slow. I guess its because the drums are so fast and muffled it kind of slows the music down in addition to the slower melodic guitar. Well, i hope you enjoy, although enjoy doesn't seem appropriate.

Turk Street

This is the first release from Bay-Area band KowloonWalledCity entitled 'TurkStreet'. These guys are reminiscent of 'WordAsLaw' era Neurosis. Its crushing mid tempo sludge, with a very hardcore feel to it. These guys actually contacted me and were woundering if i would do a review of their release. In the e-mail they directed me to their website were they give you the option to download the album for free or purchase it. When i saw this i thought to myself that is totally awesome that a band would do that, and after giving the EP a good listen, i placed my order for the 10" and can't wait to get my grubby little hands on it. Every track on the Ep is relentless and full of angst and power, like a run away train coming to a screeching and grinding halt. So ya, if you are waiting for some good sludgyness stained with a lil' Hardcore here is your chance to be the first on your block to own this badboy.
You can download/Purchase it from the band Here
Or Download it from me Here
Either way if you find yourself moved by these tracks you could always say Thank You by supporting the band with a purchase.
Enjoy!
PS. The are also playing a hand full of shows in the Bay Area if anyone is interested

Sat 10/11 Record release show - Annie's Social Club, San Francisco
Fri 10/17 w/Mammatus - Stork Club, Oakland
Mon 11/17 Free early show w/Helms Alee - Hemlock Tavern, San Francisco

The Eyes Of Man Look Out And Beyond

This is Electric Wizards second full length album entitled 'ComeMyFanatics'. This was my first exposure to this band i remember it as though it were yesterday, It was a brisk and foggy fall morning. I was sitting in on the side of a brick walk way at school waiting for my health and nutrion class to start. While i was waiting i put on this album from a band my friend had given me a week or two prior. So i sat there and started listening to this album while i was drinking some coffee trying to stay warm. As the second track 'WizardInBlack' started to play it seemed as though time had come to a screeching halt, like everything had slowed down to a snails pace. The song put me in a euforic daze that seemed to last forever. THIS ALBUM CHANGED MY LIFE! . Before this album i was utterly content with Sabbath and Sleep. This is actually the band and the album that made me further my quest for stonermetal. All in all i love this album and would like to share it with you. It is spacey, slow, and down-tuned to the point of no return. Enjoy

And Justice for y'all!

This is WeedEater's fists album entitled 'And Justice for Y'all' from 2001. This band reminds me of like a southern inspired version of MotorHead on tons of heroin. I love this album, and this band. They just seem to epitomize Stoner in so many ways. I love that they are all about marijuana while at the same time not way over the top about it. Members of this band used to be in the infamous Buzzov*en, and at times it really shows on this album. In addition the bass player and main vocalist Dixie Collins also played in Bongzilla. So ya, enjoy.

Slow Dirty And Painful

This is the Grief/13 Split which came out in 1993. This record is crushing, bleak, and awe-inspireing. Most of you should already be familiar with Grief so they don't really need much explaining, but if they do click here. So on to 13, they rule. They were a mostly female Doom/Sludge band from the NewYork area(i believe). I don't know to much about 13 but i do know that they did splits with EYEHATEGOD. Also the guitar player went on to such note worthy acts as Sourvein and now can be heard in ElectricWizard along with her husband JusOborn. Hope you enjoy

So for all the folks wishing i would post more Sabbath laden Doom here you go. This is Bongzilla's 2002 release entitled 'Gateway' its exactly what you have come to expect from these masters of Marijuana. Old fashioned stoner metal in the vein of ElectricWizard but with hash almost BlackMetal vocals. In addition you get awesome album art featuring Satan at the gates of hell enthroned in his unholy majesty with bong in hand(cheesy i know, but you gotta love it). So ya, its nothing mind blowing, but it sure kicks a lot of ass. If you like EYEHATEGOD but think the fast parts "Harsh You Buzz" then i think this is the band for you. So just sit back on your couch with plenty of snacks of your choice by your side and contemplate the deep meaning behind such songs as 'Stone A Pig' and 'Keefmaster' or just stare at stuff.

"Ever Seen The Back of a Twenty Dollar Bill? Ever Seen The Back of a Twenty Dollar Bill, on Weed?"

See it Here, Dude

Waiting For Tonight!

Tonight i am going to the 'MaifestDestinyFest' to see Witchcraft and Witch, i am so excited that i am going to give you guys a sample of what they sound like, Witch are a band from the Vermont area and play heavy distorted rock in the vein of early Pentegram, LedZepplin, and BlackSabbath. I would have to say that they sound a lil' closer to Zepplin then anything else, but evil and ominous. Did i mention that it has a member of DEEPWOUND!!!!! the same member who went on to DinosaurJR, J Mascis is his name. Witch has a total of 2 albums out, two 7" and a DVD. if you want to buy any of it go to TeePeeRecords. Mabye i will posty some DeepWound later.
Here is Witch

By now you should have all heard about Witchcraft, the band that wishes so badly that they lived in the 70's, with their JethroTull/Pentegram Doominess. they have come out so far with 2 album a split 10"w/TheSword, and two 7"s(?). This band has been touring the hell out of The USA and word on the street is that they do so for the Kombucha because they can't get it in their country for whatever reason. Any-who if you have yet to purchase anything from these fine gents you can do so here
Here is Witchcraft

Coping With Death

Photobucket

This is MyDyingBride's 'As The Flower Withers' from 1992 on Peacevile records. MyDyingBride is the self destructive form of anger during the coping process that forces us to lash out at ourselves in time of crises when we have no other release. It is dark poetic art in the vein of Asunder, ParadiseLost, and Anathema. The music is typically guttural vocals overlapping melodic guitar and the occasional violin and keyboard section. These guys remind me of a much prettier and more put together Axegrinder. So all in all this is like a mix of DeathMetal and Doom, or FuneralDoom, or whatever you wanna call it. While MyDyingBride is known for being pretty and slow this album certainly has some faster or at least mid-tempo songs. It seems as though this would be perfect to listen to on a rain day, after shoe gazing for a while. Stand out tracks include 'The Bitterness and the Bereavement', Sear Me' , and 'Well i hope you like it.

Bleak Slow Drone

Photobucket

This is one of the best things to ever come from Southern Lord, this is Thorr'sHammer, and their only release (to my knowledge) 'Dommedagsnatt'. Thorr'sHammer play very epic doom metal in the vein of Asunder. This album is dark powerful and slow. Thorr'sHammer is collaboration of the great GregAnderson and StephenO'Malley, who have been in quite the array of bands including BurningWitch, Goatsnake, and SunnO))) just to name a few. So if that doesn't speak volumes about how great this release is you either are unfamiliar with DoomMetal or you simply don't like it. Well the music is a mix of droning doom, growled guttural vocals, with the addition of very pretty female vocals done by RunhildGammelsæter. Her vocals give this a very stark and ominous feeling. Just as a side note she also hails from Norway and sings on this record in ... you guessed it, Norwegian. So here you go, hope you enjoy.

Selbstmörderisches Deutschland

Photobucket

Pain, Hatred and contempt for ones life. Bethlehem are the band nightmares are made of, the vocals are split between shrieks, growls, and spooky whispers. all in all, Bethlehem brings this desperate feeling of anguish and self loathing that is so compelling. The music is somewhere in the midst of Black Metal and doom, the band branding themselves "DarkMetal" which after listening to it doesn't see so absurd a title. The emotion carried forth in this release is spooky, and the fact that this is all being forced at you in German just adds to the scariness. I now know what it feels like to be held hostage by a German with a death-wish. Any-who Bethlehem hail from Germany and have been around since 1991. This is their fourth release entitled 'Dictius Te Necare' which is Latin for 'You Must/Should Kill Yourself'.They have a full length before this along with a 7" and demo. I guess they suck now and play some sort of "Nu" metal with synth, i haven't experienced it, but thats the word on my street. I believe this is the last album this singer was on, but i'm not sure. At times this album can be pretty in an eerie kind of way, but for the most part its just bleak blackness with a soft spot for the suffering of existence. Well, hope you like it, its ugly and abrasive. My favorite tracks are 'Die Anarchische Befreiung Der Augenzeugenreligion' and the last one 'Dorn Meiner Allmacht'.

Dude!

Photobucket

Whats that off in the distance? I hear the oh so familiar sounds of BlackSabbath and I can smell the quaint smell of Marijuana and a lack of cleanliness. This is Sleep, they ultra Sabbath inspired stoner rock will always have a special place in my heart. It never gets old an stale, at least i don't think so. If you are unaware of Sleep, you are in for a treat. the reason i posted this and not 'Volume One', 'Holy Mountain' or 'Dopesmoker' is simply because these are all curantly in print and for some reason(even though the band is long gone) i would feel bad, because they have brought so much joy into my life. Besides if you like this go and pick up 'HolyMountain' two of the three tracks on this 7" are featured on that phenomenal album. Any-who Sleep come from San Jose C.A. and we're active in the 1990's. Sleep members can be found in the great AsbestosDeath(pre-Sleep), OM, and the ever popular HighOnFire. Sleep is my favorite out of all of those bands, I'm not sure why, maybe because i heard Sleep first. Anyways they also included a cover of Sabbaths 'LordOfThisWorld' which is just like Sabbath but the vocals have some nice effects over them which make it sound like the vocals were recorded under water, i think it might be flange and reverb...im not sure. Oh and if can't tell that the cover of the 7" is a Sabbath album, you don't deserve to listen to this. Drop out of this world with bong in hand, and enjoy some SLEEP.
