Come To Grief

This is Grief's 1st Full length record entitled 'Come To Grief '. This is good old fashioned sludge, its brutally slow, narcotic induced and heavy. This is the paranoia one feels after mass consumption of Marijuana, and the feeling one gets after years of drug use has isolate them from their friends, family, and all the people that once cared for them.

Space, The Final Frontier

Space, the final frontier. We exist on a on a giant marble hurdling through the cosmos with an unimaginable amount of power slowly pushing us around and around the Sun in a constant groove. This is sort of the way i would describe NegativeReaction with their deep appreciation for all things spacey, and their infectious spacey sludge. This is there 1998 effort entitled 'TheOrbitEp'. It is what anyone would come to expect in a Sludge/StonerMetal band slow down-tuned grooves, and crushing Drums. But i must say i love the vocals they are exquisite, punishing anguished shrill strained vocals. Well that's all i got so enjoy some good old fashioned Sludge from NewYorkCity. For fans of Grief, Bongzilla, GravesAtSea, NoothGrush...and various others.

Turk Street

This is the first release from Bay-Area band KowloonWalledCity entitled 'TurkStreet'. These guys are reminiscent of 'WordAsLaw' era Neurosis. Its crushing mid tempo sludge, with a very hardcore feel to it. These guys actually contacted me and were woundering if i would do a review of their release. In the e-mail they directed me to their website were they give you the option to download the album for free or purchase it. When i saw this i thought to myself that is totally awesome that a band would do that, and after giving the EP a good listen, i placed my order for the 10" and can't wait to get my grubby little hands on it. Every track on the Ep is relentless and full of angst and power, like a run away train coming to a screeching and grinding halt. So ya, if you are waiting for some good sludgyness stained with a lil' Hardcore here is your chance to be the first on your block to own this badboy.
You can download/Purchase it from the band Here
Or Download it from me Here
Either way if you find yourself moved by these tracks you could always say Thank You by supporting the band with a purchase.
Enjoy!
PS. The are also playing a hand full of shows in the Bay Area if anyone is interested

Sat 10/11 Record release show - Annie's Social Club, San Francisco
Fri 10/17 w/Mammatus - Stork Club, Oakland
Mon 11/17 Free early show w/Helms Alee - Hemlock Tavern, San Francisco

Slow Dirty And Painful

This is the Grief/13 Split which came out in 1993. This record is crushing, bleak, and awe-inspireing. Most of you should already be familiar with Grief so they don't really need much explaining, but if they do click here. So on to 13, they rule. They were a mostly female Doom/Sludge band from the NewYork area(i believe). I don't know to much about 13 but i do know that they did splits with EYEHATEGOD. Also the guitar player went on to such note worthy acts as Sourvein and now can be heard in ElectricWizard along with her husband JusOborn. Hope you enjoy

So for all the folks wishing i would post more Sabbath laden Doom here you go. This is Bongzilla's 2002 release entitled 'Gateway' its exactly what you have come to expect from these masters of Marijuana. Old fashioned stoner metal in the vein of ElectricWizard but with hash almost BlackMetal vocals. In addition you get awesome album art featuring Satan at the gates of hell enthroned in his unholy majesty with bong in hand(cheesy i know, but you gotta love it). So ya, its nothing mind blowing, but it sure kicks a lot of ass. If you like EYEHATEGOD but think the fast parts "Harsh You Buzz" then i think this is the band for you. So just sit back on your couch with plenty of snacks of your choice by your side and contemplate the deep meaning behind such songs as 'Stone A Pig' and 'Keefmaster' or just stare at stuff.

"Ever Seen The Back of a Twenty Dollar Bill? Ever Seen The Back of a Twenty Dollar Bill, on Weed?"

See it Here, Dude

Why Do People Hate This Band?

Photobucket

I don't get why people get so up in arms abut Bongzilla. Sure their name is cheesy, and they are over the top about their love for marijuana, but its called stoner metal for a reason, they love weed. They are no better or worse musicians then ElectricWizard, Sleep, EYEHATEGOD, or Weedeater(which they would later share a member of). It makes me wonder what certain people are thinking, because i'll let someone tell me how cheesy and "bad" Bongzilla is, and then the same person will go on to explain to me what a great band St. Vitus is. Please do not get me wrong, i love St.Vitus(both Reagers and Wino) but Wino writes/sings some of the cheesiest song i have ever heard. Any ways, This is 'Methods For Attaining Extreme Altitudes' from Bongzilla. Bongzilla hail from Madison, Wisconsin and play, well stoner metal/sludge/doom/ whatever. This slic of canibinoid madness came out in 1998 on the ever popular Relapse Records. I would say Bongzilla's style of Stoner Metal/Sludge... is pretty nice the vocals can sometimes come acroos kinda Black metalish at times, with the raspy screams, and sheiks. Overall i would say that Bongzilla is like EYEHATEGOD with out the faster parts. In total, 'Methods...' contains a whole 3 tracks of smoke induced doom that are laced with samples of quotes about Marijuana. I hope you give this a listen and maybe even enjoy it.

Crushingly Slow

Photobucket

Pain, anguish, paranoia, and the stench of marijuana. This double 7" entitled 'Twin Threat To Your Sanity' is just that a threat to your way of life and the values to which you cling to. It features four flawless live tracks from those on the four front of sludge(in 2001). Also features an awesome CelticFrost cover from Noothgrush. I'm not to big on live recordings, seeing as so many are just so poorly produced that unless you were there to witness these spectacles in all there glory, what's the point. But this one flat-out floored me, all the tracks were taken from four separate concerts and they are all of good quality. Every bodies favorite Dystopia, is good as always, along with sludges favorite band from the rising sun, Corrupted. Last but not least, why is it that everybody hates Bongzilla? Their music is awesome, and maybe they are a lil over the top about their consumption. But i was under the impression that they played stoner metal, and isn't that what they are supposed to be doing? Anyway, challenge your sanity.

Dystopia- Diary Of A Battered Child
Noothgrush- Procreation Of The Wicked
Bongzilla- Gestation
Corrupted- Nieve

Miserable

Photobucket

Sadness, desprate, and stoned. I use these words to describe Grief, i think they fit. Their music is depressive and slow, and one can only imagine how high they are. This was sipposed to be there 1996 effort entitled 'Miserable Ever After' its sludgy dirty and at times painful, but for somereason my file share wont let me upload anything greater than100mb, and the grief file is 104mb. I must say, one of the best tracks on this album is the cover of SaintVitus's 'Angry Man'. Its just plain brilliant. This album is perfect for sitting in your room with the lights off, just bobbing your head, and drowning in self loathing... its that good. Since I'm having troubles i think ill just give you guys the cover, and you can download the album separately if you'd like, sorry, i messed up.

We Rise From A Primordial Sea

graves at sea 7"

Well, i don't believe that Graves At Sea need any introduction. This is their 2003 release on Southern Lord(Sunn29.5) which features two tracks Cirrhosis and Atavist Arise, both great tracks. Graves At Sea play a crushingly slow brand of doom that is so very infectious. i had the privilege of seeing these guys play their last show at Slim's in San Francisco, it was an experience to say the least. Half way through the set Nathans vocals went out, and the audience was treated to a twenty minute improvised instrumental doom session. Then, like a trooper Nathan continued with vocal duties. Poor guy probably couldn't talk for days. From an outside perspective it must have looked strange. Nearly a hundred people bobbing their heads in unison as if some sort of cult like Worship, it was wonderful. Anyways, this is a great release, long out of print, and if you can find any of their releases do yourself a favor and pick them up. Also if you like Graves at Sea then do yourself a favor and pick up some Burning Witch(StephenO'Malley and Greg Anderson), they played the same style in almost the same way about eight years earlier.
